DIRECTOIRE

$285.00$295.00

France: 1793 – 1804

Often known as the transition period between Louis XVI and French Empire, the Directoire period in antique furnishing was a response to the political and social climate of the time. The French Revolution, which occurred between 1789-1799, was the result of an oppressed people revolting against an ostentatious ruling class under Louis XVI. The emergence of Directoire furniture, originating largely during, of just after, the Revolution, reflected a need for simpler living. Directoire furniture maintained some of the geometric detail found Louis XVI furnishings but in a less extravagant way. Glimpses of the Egyptian and neoclassical motifs, found in the Empire period to come, made their debut.

The AWI Directoire pillow offers simple lines with a small self-welt and  touches of elegance through gathered corners. The Directoire pillow is available in five silk fabric colorways and includes a down insert and zipper.
